Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need this course?
Successful completion of this course is the first step in obtaining your CT State Pistol Permit which will allow
you to obtain, carry, and transport a handgun on your person.
How long does this class take?
This class typically takes 10 hours and is done in one day. This includes your testing and live firing.
What do I need to bring to class?
We will provide everything you need for class including materials, firearms, ammunition, safety gear, and beverages. You will need to bring lunch,
a valid photo ID (Drivers License or State Issued ID), and any balance you owe (cash only). DO NOT bring guns or ammunition to class.
What shooting options will I have?
The State of Connecticut requires you to shoot both
rim fire and center fire handguns. You will shoot both a semi-automatic and revolver in .22 caliber.
In addition to the .22 you can choose from a variety of handguns from .380 up to a .357. You will not find a course that gives you as many options
as you have with us. This will allow you a chance to try a few different guns to give you a better idea of what is right for you.
Where do we shoot?
Unlike many other courses that require you to take your class at one location and then travel to another to shoot, we provide onsite live fire. This
means that your classroom and live firing is done at one location with no additional traveling needed. Our course allows our students to shoot either
on our outdoor target/silhouette range or our indoor target range. Of course the use of these areas will be dependant on the weather and the size of
the class. Since there is no guarantee which range you will be using be prepared for either. In the event of bad weather we will be using the indoor range only.
Does completing this course guarantee me a Carry Permit?
No. This is only the first step in obtaining your permit. Once you complete the course you will need to take your Certificate of Completion to
the Police Department in the town in which you reside. You will then need to submit your application (obtained from your Police Department) with your Certificate of Completion.
After you clear your background check you will be issued a temporary 60 day permit. After obtaining your temporary permit you will need to bring it to either the State Police
barracks in Bridgeport, or the Department of Public Safety building in Middletown where you will be photgraphed and given your permanant ID.
How long will it take to get my permit?
State law allows 6-8 weeks however you can be notified of a delay which will allow another 2-3 weeks. This means the whole process can take up to 11 weeks.
Does my permit last forever?
No. Your permit lasts for 5 years at which time it would need to be renewed. As long as your permit does not expire you will not need to take this course again.
Can I purchase a firearm from you after I get my permit?
Yes you can once you obtain your Pistol Permit. We are an FFL dealer and can obtain must firearms that are on the market. Being that we do not have a storefront we can offer very low prices.
